Join me and Fisher Cat Fiber Co September 17th and 18th at the historic Starling in beautiful Pond Eddy, New York. Celebrate fall and the start of sweater season by foraging for the optimal fall colors found in fungi. This is my only eastern workshop for 2022, and it will fill fast. The Starling is offering us hugely discounted rates for lodging and I am encouraging folks to stay onsite if they can.

Immerse in the natural surroundings of the Upper Delaware River. Explore the magical combination of fiber and fungi amongst the woodlands while staying onsite in the cozy and curated historic accommodations at the StarlingThe cottage and boarding house rooms have all of the amenities you need for a comfortable and memorable retreat experience. Bring a friend, bring your partner, and book your stay for the weekend. We hope to utilize the entire facility - the cottage, the apartment, and the boardinghouse rooms. Call or email Kristen at the Starling for special rates and to book your stay.

Together, we will meander through the forest, observing and gathering wild mushrooms and fallen lichens amongst the early fall foliage. We will document and test our finds on the porch of the old general store, exploring techniques to reveal the rich rainbow of mushroom and lichen dye colors found in the region. A local fresh lunch will be provided daily as we dine together in the riverhouse.

All supplies and samples are provided for the workshop, however, you are welcome to bring several additional wool or silk items (sorted to <2oz bundles) to dye in the larger communal dye pots Sunday. Please bring lidded containers like jars and buckets if you'd like to take home leftover dyes. At the end of this workshop, you will feel comfortable collecting and describing fungi for identification, ethically harvesting and testing lichens for color, preparing ammonia lichen dye vats, dyeing with all types of fungi and you will have a strong foundation to build on as you continue your future exploration.

*Early bird registration is open to those booking their lodging on-site at the Starling. Email Kristen directly for booking rates at thestarlingatpondeddy@gmail.com, then register here.
